If you pay any staff, then your business will need a payroll that accounts for tax and national insurance on their payments. Each tax year end, youll need to produce a payroll return that shows these deductions.
As a sole trader youre not counted as a member of staff, but if youre a director of a limited company, you do qualify as staff and should be on the payroll even if you dont draw a salary.
